Will Smith: Reality is stranger than Hollywood

willWill Smith has joked people would think a screenplay of US President Barack Obama's story was 'awful' if it was penned years ago.

Obama is America's first African American president, having won the 2008 election.

Will often disagrees with his friends who claim many Hollywood movies have ridiculous storylines, insisting a lot of real life would seem unbelievable in film.

'I argue with people all the time about Hollywood. People say, 'Oh that's Hollywood. That's not real.' Imagine if Obama hadn't won and someone pitched a screenplay where a black man called Barack Obama ran for presidency of the United States and wins,' he said. 'It's the worst screenplay you've ever read in your life, it's awful - it's like who would waste their time writing that fake story it'll never happen. Life is far stranger than fiction could ever be.'

Will is promoting his new movie Men in Black III at the moment, the latest instalment in the alien franchise. He's thrilled to be reprising his role as Agent J and has explained how he got in character.

'It's the suit, then you slide the shades on, then your face gets serious and you can just feel the man in black washing over you. It's such a little boy fantasy,' he said.

Josh Brolin appears in the new movie, portraying a younger version of Tommy Lee Jones' character Agent K. Will has joked the first day on set was too much for Josh to cope with.

'Did he tell you that he was so terrified after the first day of rehearsal that he tried to quit?' he laughed. 'He was like, 'I can't do it! I can't do it!' He didn't bring that up?! 'Oooohh, I can't do it!''
